The first lineup of Descent Into Madness appeared on the Houston scene in the early 2001. The band at that time was classified as gothic-tinged power metal. At that time D.I.M. consisted of Deanna Haughey (vocals and keyboards), Alexander (guitars), Andrew Sutton (bass), Tom Spencer (rhytm guitar and vocals), Chris Peterson (drums). This lineup played some live shows during spring of 2001, with Deanna eventually exiting the band to pursue acoustic solo career. Courtney Claibourne came in as her replacement and took the duties of female vocalist while Derek Brown entered as keyboardist. In summer of 2002 this lineup released the first official D.I.M. demo "In the Darkest Hours" (recorded at Sugar Hill Studios) and played many successful shows in support of it. Around January 2003 Chris Peterson left the band due to musical and personal differences. Bruce Godzina came in as his replacement and brought a definite improvement to the band's sound. Soon after Derek Brown was replaced by Marco Bayarena on keys. Claudio Lassala joined on guitar with Tom Spencer's focus becoming vocals . The period of Summer and Fall 2003 brought the busiest period of live shows and charity festival appearances by the band. Around Christmas 2003 Tom decided to exit the band due to musical differences. With the departure of vocalists Tom Spencer and Courtney Claibourne at the end of 2003, D.I.M. took a change of pace towards edgier, more progressive metal. Vocalist Alexandra (Xandra) West joined the band and performed on the new demo as well as some live shows. This lineup lasted about 5 months and produced the 2004 demo with vocalist Xandra, Marco Bayarena (keys), Bruce Godzina (drums), Alexander (guitars), Claudio (guitars) and Andrew on bass. After the demo was released Marco and Bruce left the band to pursue other interests, while the remaining members tried to weather the changes with ongoing auditions for the elusive drummer spot. While several promising replacements were found, the flimsy nature of the music business didn't produce anyone steady that could take the stage with authority. Around the end of 2004 Xandra left the band as well. While in pre-production demo mode in Summer 2005, Alexander, Andrew and Claudio found Jennifer Alexander (ex-Last Eve) and asked her to guest on the new recording. After hearing her vocal performance she was instantly asked to join and accepted. The lack of drummer and the ongoing auditions took toll on everyone with eventually leading Andrew (bass)to exit the band around January 2006. As a strange coincidence Andy V. (drums) joined the band a month later. DIM recorded "Fool's March" (2006 Demo) at LIS Studios in June 2006. In recent news Andy V. and Descent Into Madness have parted ways due to differences. While working on new material the band is currently searching for a drummer and a bass player.
Currently DIM is getting ready to record a new demo. The band is auditioning bassists as well. |
